The VE5SK repeater is connected to the internet with EchoLink.

EchoLink^® software allows licensed Amateur Radio stations to communicate with one another over the Internet, using streaming-audio technology.  The program allows worldwide connections to be made between stations, or from computer to station, greatly enhancing Amateur Radio's communications capabilities.  There are more than 350,000 validated users worldwide — in 159 of the world's 193 nations — with about 6,000 online at any given time,

• Alternatives to EchoLink^® are Allstar Link-based apps like RepeaterPhone (iOS) and DVSwitch (Android) for accessing linked repeaters, and other platforms like Peanut and DroidStar for digital modes like DMR and Fusion

The following apps will allow you to communicate over and listen to the VE5SK Saskatoon repeater using your phone or a computer.  Great for keeping in touch when outside the normal range of the repeater or not close to your favourite VHF radio.

• EchoLink App for iOS
  • EchoLink for iOS runs natively on iPhone and iPad. It is available from the iOS App Store.
• EchoLink App for Android
  • EchoLink for Android works on Android phones, tablets, and other devices. It is available from Google Play.
• EchoLink Web
  • A completely cross-platform solution, EchoLink Web runs in a web browser, with no special software to install.

Once the App/Platform is installed, you will need to Authenticate your callsign.

• Head on over to EchoLink Authentication to do that.

With the App/Platform up and running, within the app, look for the station VE5HRC-R and connect to it.  Once connected, your device can now transmit to and receive from the VE5SK repeater.  Make VE5HRC-R one of your favorites to connect to it in the future.

• There is a small delay with each transmission when using the EchoLink App, so be aware of that and perhaps broadcast that you are using EchoLink so others are aware there will be a small delay in your responses.  Proper identification using your callsign must be made periodically just as if you were on your radio.
