What’s happening with SaDARA!

Hello everyone here is an update on what we have planned this year so far and we hope you all are looking forward to our future as a club as much as we are.

Annual General Meeting: Thursday, April 21st at 7:30 P.M. this is an online meeting Saskatoonand District Amateur Radio Association | Jitsi Meet

Topics besides standard AGM requirements will be: Club Secretary is still needed as Ron Ford is still in the “temporary” position since the club formation.

2022 Field Day: Saturday and Sunday, June 25th and 26th. This is the big day folks, we will once again be out at Ron Watson’s farm out highway 219 looking to make contacts and make friends while enjoying this wonderful hobby and finishing off with a great meal and interaction.

Radio Day In The Park: Saturday, July 9th tentatively scheduled for Meewasin Park on Spadina crescent  This is a fun event where club members can bring out some equipment to demonstrate to the public and encourage them to take up this incredible hobby. If you have a portable station for HF or Satellite and would be willing to help out by activating it at the park please contact Dave Weigel at ve5iv@sasktel.net to let us know.

Aviation Days:  Last weekend in August, 27th and 28th and 29th at the Saskatchewan Aviation Museum ( see above for location) we are hoping to tie in with their event to put up a display and hopefully have a couple CW operators that can demonstrate by encouraging children to sent messages to another location within the museum either through radio or a CW oscillator etc.

A club such as ours is only as strong as its involvement in society and within its organization through participation.

Enhancement to the 146.640 (VE5SK) Repeater

As many of you are aware, we have been experiencing noise/interference problems with the VE5SK (146.640) repeater.  In order to address this problem SaDARA will be placing a 100 Hz tone on the repeater to keep it running smoothly for the benefit of all amateurs.  This enhancement will happen in about a month’s time. Assistance will be available to any amateur that requires help setting up their radio to take advantage of this enhancement.

President’s Message

Please bear with me as I am new to this format, my name is David Weigel but most know me as Dave. I have been a licensed amateur radio operator since 1992 and have recently been entrusted with the honor of representing this new club/association as president.

To give you all an update on some news we are in the final stages of finding a new home for us at the Saskatchewan Aviation Museum And Learning center. We will be able to if granted government approval put up an antenna installation and that will then lead to a club station for members to utilize and possibly remotely. The opportunities this location affords us is incredible as we will have a display that is available to the visitors including school tours which may help entice young minds to explore our wonderful hobby.

One of the special interest groups or SIG for short I am involved in is the social committee and we will as opportunity lets us have club events like Social Days such as family wiener roasts and fox hunts. We will also be doing fundraising events like burger sales to the public at locations within our city and we will have pamphlets and a display as well.

|I will update this as more details come to light now that we are entering a new era as a club and an end to Covid is in sight.

Stay well and stay safe and hope to see you soon in our new club home!

David Weigel
